Whilst hair loss in men is very common thinning hair in women is not so common. Despite the fact that hair loss in men is more common the emotional impact in women who experience thinning hair can be more devastating. For some men baldness can almost be fashionable but this is far from true for women. And hair loss in young women can be even more devastating.

Let’s consider 6 causes of hair loss in young women.

1. Young women can suffer from a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome that can result in hair loss. Young women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome have an overproduction of the hormone testosterone. It is an endocrine disorder that affects around 5 percent of all women including young women. The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome is not yet known yet it is known that it can cause thinning of the hair on the top of the head as well as increased hair growth on the body, chest and legs, just as would occur in men.

Treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome can be complex however successful treatment should result in a return to normal hair growth.

2. It is also well-known that childbirth can cause hair loss. Young women of course can experience childbirth in their early years, however hair loss in this way is normally recovered very quickly.

3. Thyroid problems can cause hair loss in young women and these should be treated by a doctor as soon as possible, and successful treatment should restore hair growth. There are also other medical conditions which can cause sudden or patchy hair loss and if a young woman experiences hair loss that is sudden or patchy she should always consult with her doctor to see if this is a symptom of a medical condition that should be treated.

4. Hormonal imbalances can cause a young woman to experience hair loss. Hormonal imbalances are a matter for treatment by a doctor and successful treatment should restore normal hair growth. Hormonal imbalance can even be caused by some birth control methods and this to will lead to some hair thinning in young women but should settle down over time.

5. Young women are always conscious of their looks and weight is a big part of how a young woman looks and feels. It is well known that hair is heavily dependent for good health on an adequate supply of vitamins and minerals and that if hair is deprived of essential nutrients it can weaken, thin and even die. Young women who undertake crash diets or fad diets can often find that they are unknowingly depriving themselves of a range of essential nutrients and this can be seen in their poor hair health. Crash dieting can lead to hair loss in young women and the solution is to undertake a diet that may include more essential nutrients.
Hair Loss In Young Women

It is perfectly possible to control your weight with a diet that is high in vitamins and minerals that is healthy to your body but low in calories. In fact the best is one low in fatty foods and high in fresh fruit and vegetables and this is a good diet not only for weight loss but also for good health including good hair health.

6. The final cause of hair loss in young women that we wish to discuss today is female pattern baldness. Like men women too can suffer from the inherited condition called female pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia. This is a condition that predisposes a woman to thinning of the hair. Whilst most women do not suffer from baldness to the same degree as men who suffer from male pattern baldness they still suffer from sufficient thinning of the hair to be an embarrassment.

It is estimated that somewhere around 90 percent of cases of hair thinning in young women, and women in general, are caused by the condition known as female pattern baldness. And the good news is that this too can be treated.

Whilst you may find a wide range of balding treatments for young women and older women on the internet the reality is that there is only one treatment that is recognized by the FDA as effective as a female balding treatment and is approved as such. This is a product called minoxidil which has been shown in studies to increase hair growth in women subject to female pattern baldness.

Whilst it does not work for every single woman who uses the product it has been shown to be effective in many cases. Although it is not 100 percent clear how minoxidil increases hair growth it is known that it does and it is suspected that the reason is that flow to the hair follicle is increased thereby improving the flow of nutrients to the follicle.

As female pattern baldness results in hair loss because of the action of a hormone called DHT restricting the flow of nutrients to the hair follicle it makes sense that minoxidil, by restoring bloodflow to the follicle and thereby increasing the supply of nutrients available should restore hair growth.

One clever company has improved on the use of minoxidil by combining a range of essential hair nutrients with 2% minoxidil and this excellent product is superior to using minoxidil on its own.

If the action of DHT is responsible for female pattern baldness by restricting the flow of nutrients to the hair follicle than one of the best things to do to restore hair growth for women, once the blood supply is improved by the use of minoxidil, is to supply all the essential nutrients that hair needs optimum growth.

This product, called Provillus, supplies minoxidil at 2 percent whilst at the same time supplying a wide range of essential hair nutrients to be taken orally. The minoxidil restores the blood flow and the nutrients are therefore made available in the blood to the hair follicle. This is the best way to restore hair growth in cases of female pattern baldness.

As you can see there are a number of causes of hair loss in young women. Thinning hair in young women is very unusual but not unknown, and in many cases the hair loss will reverse once an underlying condition is no longer causing death thinning hair.

However if the thinning hair in the young woman is caused by female pattern baldness this will not be the case and it will be necessary to resort to a good female hair loss treatment such as Provillus. Read the rest of this entry

Have you spent your life looking for a baldness cure? Cures for baldness are everywhere, particularly on the internet, but how many baldness cures actually deliver?

Is estimated that more than 50 percent of men will suffer some form of balding during their lifetime. For this reason the market for products to cure baldness is enormous and there are massive amounts of money to be made. The vast majority of men are extremely unhappy at approaching balding and many will spend a lot of money searching for a good cure for baldness.

Where there is a market there will always be a product, and exactly the same goes for cures for hair loss. If you get on the internet you’ll find dozens, possibly even hundreds of products advertised that they will cure baldness.

But before you even start trying baldness cures you need to find out what is causing your thinning hair. The reason is that there are a range of causes of balding and that some of them will reverse themselves naturally. For some causes of hair loss there is no need to search for a cure.

I’ll give you an example. It is known that people on particular diets low in nutrients, including protein, can suffer from some form of hair loss. Hair is like many other organs in your body, it needs an adequate supply of nutrients to be healthy and if that adequate supply of nutrients is not available it becomes unhealthy.

Unhealthy hair will usually become thinner, weaker and may die prematurely. Whilst all hair dies after a while, it is normally replaced by a new healthy hair. However hair that is affected by poor nutrition is often not replaced and the result is thinning hair, eventually to the point where it becomes noticeable to everybody.

Particularly for men the assumption is made that they are suffering from male pattern baldness and that there is nothing they can do to reverse their thinning hair. Whilst it’s true that over 90 percent of cases men’s hair loss is caused by male pattern balding it is not necessarily the case for any one individual. There are other causes of men’s hair loss as well.
Baldness Cures

So if you’re experiencing hair loss then a visit to the doctor is well worthwhile. There are medical conditions that can cause hair loss that should be diagnosed if you are suffering from them and there are also medications that can cause hair loss. Stress is thought to cause hair loss and in all of these cases if the underlying problem is reversed the hair loss should also reverse.

But as already mentioned over 90 percent of cases of men’s hair loss is caused by male pattern baldness and therefore there are a massive number of men searching for a cure for baldness because male pattern baldness does not reverse. That means that there are tens of millions of men searching for baldness cures with a market that size there is always a large number of products taking advantage of the market.

Not all products advertise as baldness cures work. There are some that are outright scams, some which may or may not work but which are unproven, and some which work but do not necessarily work for everybody. There is no cure for baldness that works for everybody.

The most important thing to understand is that if you try any of the baldness cures advertised on the internet, other than two, they are not approved by the FDA as a men’s hair loss treatment and it is therefore fair to assume that they are unproven to reverse hair loss. Whilst there may be studies showing that these products restore hair growth if the studies were sufficiently conclusive the product would be submitted to the FDA and approved as a hair loss treatment, and it would be huge news. You’d know about it.

The mere fact that these cures for baldness are not approved would be sufficient for us to discourage us from using them. You do not know what chemicals are in the product and whether there is any possibility that  it may either damage your hair or your health.

The internet is unregulated. Anyone can advertise a product to cure baldness on the internet. They don’t need to prove that it works and they don’t need to prove that it is safe for people to use.

We have an organization that is tasked with examining these things and issuing recommendations and approvals. That’s the FDA. Whilst not perfect if the FDA are prepared to approve a product then there is a reasonable presumption that the product works.

There are 2 products approved by the FDA as balding cures for men. The first one of these is finasteride is marketed as Propecia. This has been shown to the satisfaction of the FDA to work to restore hair growth. For this reason it is approved, though only for men because it is shown to have some serious side-effects if used by women. It may also have some side-effects for men including loss of libido.

The other product approved by the FDA as a men’s hair loss treatment is minoxidil. Again the fact that this is approved as a hair loss treatment suggests that the FDA has satisfied itself that there is sufficient evidence demonstrating it’s effectiveness at promoting hair regrowth. And there is no doubt that minoxidil has been shown in studies to reverse hair loss, though of course not for everybody.

Neither finasteride more minoxidil was intended originally as a hair loss product. Both were intended for other uses, finasteride as a prostate treatment and minoxidil as a blood pressure treatment. But in both cases they were observed to grow extra hair in subjects are used them and so studies were undertaken for their hair restoration properties. Studies showed that they did indeed help regrow hair.
Baldness Cure

Minoxidil, it is thought, improves hair regrowth by improving the flow of blood to the hair follicle. This allows more nutrients to reach the follicle thereby improving hair growth. And as lack of nutrients is the reason why hair becomes in unhealthy in cases of male pattern baldness, this makes sense.

Although minoxidil has been shown to work as a baldness cure, one company has seen a way to make it work more effectively. This company supplies minoxidil together with a range of essential hair nutrients on the premise that, if an increased flow of blood to the follicle allows the follicle to uptake more nutrients, it should work better where all those nutrients are available.

This approach seems to work more effectively than simply using minoxidil on its own.

So if you’re searching for a baldness cure avoid the advertising and the hype that you find on the internet for products which are not approved to use as hair loss products. If they’re not approved chances are pretty high that they don’t work and you’re probably putting your health at risk as well as your money.

There are only 2 products approved the men as balding cures. In our view the best is Provillus which combines the use of minoxidil together with a range of essential hair nutrients to maximize the chances of the treatment working for you.

However, although it seems that Provillus is the most effective balding cure, you should also be aware that you should be prepared to use it for at least 6 months before making any judgement if it is working for you, and preferably more. Like finasteride minoxidil works slowly, visible results may come for some people in as little as 2 months but for many they do not and it is important to use a product long enough to allow it to work.
