Whilst Minoxidil is proven to work there’s some things you need to know before you commence Minoxidil use.

Estimates are that over 50 percent of men will suffer from some form of baldness during their lives. For some this will start in their teenage years and may well lead to almost complete baldness, whilst others will suffer an almost unnoticeable thinning of the hair and receding hairline. In most cases the cause is the inherited condition called male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia to give you the technical term.

There is a wide range of baldness cures on the Internet, you may spend all day looking at them all. If you do you will find that one name keeps coming up over and over again. Minoxidil. Does minoxidil use really cure male pattern baldness?

Baldness cures on the internet range from outright scams right through to products which have been shown in scientific studies to help reverse baldness, both balding in men and also balding in women. However there is not a single hair loss product on the market that will work for everybody. Anyone wanting to try to stop thinning hair needs to try one of the recognized hair loss treatments and be prepared to try for a significant period of time before deciding whether it is working for them or not.

Minoxidil use is no different. There are only 2 products approved by the FDA for use by men as a baldness treatment. Minoxidil is one of them and minoxidol has been shown in studies to help reverse thinning hair. It is known that minoxidil use is effective for many people.

The other product approved by the FDA for use as a baldness treatment in men is finasteride which is generally marketed as Propecia. Propecia use also has been shown to work as a treatment for baldness, though as is the case with minoxidil use it will not work for everybody.

There are no other hair loss treatments that have been approved by the FDA for use by men to reverse baldness. All other hair loss treatments should be considered to be either experimental or unproven until the manufacturers of these products are able to provide sufficient evidence to the FDA that they work to have these products approved for general use as a baldness treatment.

Whilst there are 2 products approved for men for treatment for baldness there is only one product approved for women and this is minoxidil. Minoxidil use by women is effective to reverse thinning hair, however again it is true to say that it does not work for everybody.

There is no doubt that minoxidil use works. This has been shown to the satisfaction of the FDA, otherwise they would not have approved it for hair loss in either men or women. And the fact that it is the only approved product for hair loss in women suggests that minoxidil is probably the best baldness treatment around.

However if you’re suffering from thinning hair there are a few things you need to understand about minoxidil use. The first is that, as we already noted, it does not work for everybody. Whilst minoxidil clearly works it is up to the individual to give it sufficient time to work to see whether or not it works for them. Some suggestions are that you should commit to minoxidil use for at least 6 months, and properly for 12 months, before you are prepared to make the judgment about whether minixidil works for you.

The next thing to understand is that minoxodil use may work to reverse should thinning hair however once you discontinue its use the balding will recommence. If you wish to retain the benefits of minoxidil use you need to keep using the product.

Sometimes some people begin using minoxidil, or for that matter finasteride, without understanding either of these facts. The reality for both products is that they do not work for everybody, that they take quite some time to work and that you need to keep using the product.

There is no hair loss treatment available, other than perhaps surgery or hair pieces, which will reverse hair loss in everybody, will do so fast and the use of which, after this has been achieved, can be discontinued. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

There are many people searching for a miracle baldness cure and there is no miracle cure for baldness. If you’re considering using minoxidil to treat hair loss you need to understand these few simple facts before you start minoxidil use, or you run the risk of ending up like so many other people on the Internet who complain that minoxidil, and for that matter finasteride, are a scam.

They clearly work and are proven to do so, but not for everybody and not fast. Just like many different treatments for many different health conditions the results you get from their use vary from person to person.

Although minoxidil use clearly works for many people there is a product available on the market which combines minoxidil with a range of other essential hair nutrients to increase the likelihood that the minoxidil will work for you. This product is called Provillus, and it supplies a topical application of minoxidil together with a wide range of hair nutrients all of which help contribute to optimum hair growth.

DHT is the hormone responsible for hair loss in cases of male pattern baldness. Provillus helps block the operation of the DHT and supplies hair nutrients so that once the operation of the DHT is stopped the hair can regain full health. This treatment seems to work better than using minoxidil on its own.

Clearly minoxidil works. If you’re considering using minoxidil then Provillus is the best way to do so. However all the same comments still apply, it doesn’t work for everybody and it doesn’t work fast, and even if you get wonderful results you need to keep using it.

If you understand that you may well find that Provillus offers you the best solution to baldness available.

OR READ OUR ARTICLE BELOW.

Lately you’ve noticed that your hair doesn’t seem as thick as it used to be. You’re getting worried that like your dad you may end up bald. You’re starting to wonder whether you should be considering using products for thinning hair.

It’s not uncommon that people notice that their hair falls out. All hair has a limited life of anywhere up to 6 years and at the end of its life a hair will die and fall out. However healthy hair which falls out is usually replaced by another one that is equally healthy.

So if you’re noticing that your brush or comb has some stray hairs in the morning it may not be an indication of a serious problem. However if you are noticing that your brush is jam packed with hair then it may be that you are experiencing the most common cause of balding, namely pattern balding.

Whilst pattern balding is not the only cause of baldness it is by far the most common, affecting somewhere around half of all men to some degree and around a quarter of women. Male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness are both inherited conditions that come from previous members of your family which predispose you to premature baldness for genetic reasons.

When the balding starts, where it becomes prominent, how advanced it will become and how noticeable it will be will all vary from individual to individual however the cause will be the same for the vast majority of people.

If this describes you then there are several options that you may choose. Many people, particularly men, choose to do nothing about it. Balding in men is almost fashionable, however trying to convince a man suffering from male pattern baldness that he is becoming fashionable might be harder than you would expect.

But if you would rather do something about it you do have some options, which basically revolve around finding effective an product for thinning hair.

There’s a wide range of hair products for thinning hair. Search Google and you’ll find a stack of thinning hair treatments. Shampoos and conditioners, lotions and potions and pills. Thinning hair treatments range from vitamins for thinning hair to biotin to treat hair loss to a wide range of other thinning hair products, many of which are little more than a con.

Unfortunately there are many who would prey on those unfortunate enough to be suffering from pattern baldness and you need to understand that not all thinning hair treatments live up to the advertising.

You also need to understand that there are products for thinning hair that do work and which have been demonstrated to work in proper studies however they do not work for everybody and it is unrealistic to expect that even the best products will necessarily work for you. Even the best baldness treatment may or may not work for you, the only way to know is to give the product a try.

And you need to understand that even the best products for thinning hair will take time to work. It’s unrealistic to use a product for a month and expect to see visible results. The time that it takes for visible results to appear can vary wildly from one person to the next.

Some people may see results in 2 months, others may take 6 or even 12 months to see any worthwhile results.

Many people use effective products but decide after a couple of months of use that these products don’t work. Often the products may have been very successful but their use was discontinued too early.

As we mentioned you can find dozens of products for hair thinning on the internet. Be very wary when you choose a balding treatment.

There are only 2 products approved by the FDA for use as hair loss treatments for men and only one product approved for use by women. These products have been demonstrated to work and the fact that the FDA has approved their use as a hair loss treatment is a further demonstration of the fact that they will allow many users to regrow hair. But as previously warned neither of these products works for everybody and the degree to which your hair will regrow will vary from person to person.

The 2 products approved for men are finasteride and minoxidil. Finasteride is marketed as Propecia (on prescription only) and minoxidil can be marketed under various names. Minoxidil is the only product approved by the FDA or used by women as a balding treatment.

Both these products were originally intended as treatments for other conditions, finasteride as a prostate treatment and minoxidil as a treatment for high blood pressure. In both cases it was observed in studies that users exhibited increased hair growth and studies were therefore undertaken on using these products as a baldness treatment. Studies show that these products work successfully, including that minoxidil will work as a baldness treatment for women.

It is not fully understood why they help regrow hair. In the case of minoxidil for instance it is suspected that it increases the supply of blood to the hair follicle. In cases of pattern baldness the hair follicle usually weakens and dies because of the action of a hormone which limits its ability to take up nutrients and therefore if minoxidil helps improve the flow of blood to the hair follicle allowing it to take up more nutrients this should help reverse the problem, and it seems to do so.

Ultimately the main reason that the hair weakens, thins and falls out is that it is low in essential nutrients and one company has recognized that if minoxidil improves blood flow to the hair follicle allowing it to take up more nutrients then providing all the essential hair nutrients will also maximize the possibility of restoring optimum hair health. This company produces an excellent hair loss product that combines the use of minoxidil with a range of essential hair nutrients which seems to work more effectively than simply using minoxidil on its own.

This product is called Provillus and is available to both men and women combining the use of FDA approved minoxidil with some natural products for thinning hair such as natural vitamins, minerals and other essential hair nutrients.

So if you’re at risk of pattern baldness and are looking for a product for thinning hair you need understand that only 2 products are approved for men and one for women. None of the other products you see advertised, of which there are many, are approved for use as a balding treatment. You use them at your risk.

And understand also that even using an approved product is no guarantee that it will work for you and that you need give it plenty of time to work before you discontinue its use if it appears not to be working.

And remember, particularly if you’re a man, it may be fashionable to be bald. That your decision.

OR READ OUR ARTICLE BELOW.

Men who are experiencing thinning hair and are starting to realize that they have approaching baldness have several options when it comes to buying a hair loss treatment. The very first baldness treatment approved by the FDA was a treatment called minoxidil. Minoxidil is now available under a range of brand names and is approved for use as a hair loss treatment. But does minoxidil work?

From the outset let us say that there is no hair loss treatment that works for everybody. Hair loss is a complex problem and combating it is also extremely complex. There is a range of causes of hair loss and different causes may respond to different treatments. However by far the most common cause of male hair loss is male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia).

Pattern baldness in men is a genetic condition. It is inherited from previous members of your family and its operation is now understood. A hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is derived from the male sex hormone testosterone, attaches itself to hair follicles and slowly limits the ability of those follicles to take up essential nutrients. Those who have inherited male pattern baldness suffer from an excess of DHT.

There are 2 products approved by the FDA for use as a treatment to restore the growth of hair. Minoxidil is one of them (approved on August 18th 1988) and the other is finasteride marketed under the brand name Propecia. Both were originally intended to treat other conditions but in both cases it was observed that subjects studied exhibited an increase in hair growth.

There are many other hair loss treatments marketed today however those are the only 2 recognized by the FDA as appropriate as a hair loss treatment. Finasteride is only approved for use by men and women wishing to buy finasteride are advised to use minoxidil.

Minoxidil comes in several strengths. There is minoxidil 2% and minoxidil 5% which refers to the strength of the product.

The question does minoxidil work is only one of the questions that should be asked by any man looking to buy minoxidil for a receding hairline. Clearly minoxidil does work, the FDA must have satisfied itself that minoxidil works before it approved it for use as a hair loss treatment. But the question is does minoxidil work for everybody and how well does it work?

Clearly minoxidil does not work for everybody. As already stated there is no recognized hair loss treatment that works for everybody. However equally clearly it does work for many. That is often dependent on the strength that is used. Studies have shown that 5 % minoxidil is much more effective than 2% minoxidil and that men who start using the 2% solution may have limited or no result but may see a result when they change to the 5% solution.

Equally important to ask is where does minoxidil work. It is now relatively well-established that minoxidil works in many cases to regrow hair on the top and crown of the head but has limited effectiveness on a receding hairline at the front.

The next question to ask is how long does it take to see results from applying minoxidil as directed. Again there is no clear answer because it can vary from person to person but expect to be using it for a number of months before eventually deciding whether or not it is working for you. It may be 2 to 4 months or more before you start to see a result and discontinuing use too early may mean that you stop using it just before the results start to show. Many give up too soon deciding that minoxidil doesn’t work when in fact if they continued using it for a few more months it would have started to work.

For some it can take up to 6 months or even more to start working.

One other matter that anyone considering buying minoxidil should understand is that no matter how well minoxidil works it’s effects are limited to the time spent applying minoxidil. Don’t expect to regain your hair and then discontinue using minoxidil and expect your new hair to remain. When you discontinue use the new hair growth will slowly start to thin again.

The mechanism by which minoxidil works is not fully understood. It was originally developed as a blood pressure treatment and acts to dilate the veins. It is considered that the most likely way that minoxidil works to restore hair growth is by improving the flow of blood to the hair follicles thereby improving their capacity to take up sufficient levels of nutrients. Whether or not that is the mode of operation it is clear that for many men minoxidil works.

One clever company called Provillus has come up with a very new product that uses minoxidil as the active ingredient and which also includes all essential hair nutrients on the principle that if hair loss is caused by lack of nutrients then the minoxidil will improve the capacity of the hair follicles to take up nutrients and having all those nutrients available gives the hair the maximum chance for optimum growth. This will greatly improve the results that you may expect from simply applying minoxidil. Receding hairlines do not respond to minoxidil but hair loss on the crown and apex of the head should be regained.

So to answer the question does minoxidil work the answer is mixed. It works for many but not all, and many give up before it starts to work. It works best on the crown and apex of the head rather than at the front and it works only for as long as you use it. However the reality is that there is no product that works for everybody, which works on all areas of the scalp and which continues to operate after it’s use is discontinued.

Minoxidil is one of only two products approved by the FDA so if minoxidil does not work for you then you should try finasteride. However by using Provillus you are giving yourself the maximum chance to make sure that minoxidil will work for you.

If you’re interested in some of the studies that demonstrate that Minoxidil works then here is a study from the April 2004 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology about the effectiveness of Minoxidil (for women) which discusses the benefits of using it for androgenic alopecia.

It’s not simple and it’s not cheap to regain your hair and it all comes down to how badly you want to reverse your hair loss. But if you want to then you ought to give it a try, and minoxidil is certainly worth trying.
